Typhoon Fitow - tracks - headed for Japan

Typhoon Fitow (TY 10W) Is tracking in a Northwesterly direction at about 7 knots/8 mph/13 kmh towards Japan. Winds are estimated at 85 knots/98 mph/157 kmh. It is expected to make initial landfall on Honshu by 5 September as a Category 3 or 4 cyclone.

Fitow has all the typical makings of a Pacific typhoon of high strength. It has massive thunderstorms and a well defined eye. It is a little less symmetrical than is typical of this type of typhoon with a long arm of cloud reaching far to the west.

The eye of Fitow is forecast to make landfall between Yokosuka and Tokyo and then track through the centre of the Japanese islands.

There is a possibility that Fitow could produce Category 4 winds in excess of 117 knots/135 mph/217 kmh.
