Westphalia - quaint, but obsolete

What is it with these guys? In the past 48 hours various right-wing bloggers have suddenly shifted into high gear suggesting the answer to all ills in the US is to strike out and punch out anyone standing in the way of whateveritistheythinkisright.

There must be something in the water.

The lastest unbelievable piece of trash comes from Glenn Reynolds via Aussie blogger Tim Lambert:

Of course, if we seized the Saudi and Iranian oil fields and ran the pumps full speed, oil prices would plummet, dictators would be broke, and poor nations would benefit from cheap energy.
Tim points out the obvious - Iraq was supposed to work that way but, jeez, it kinda went sideways.

How is it Reynolds proposes to accomplish this "seizing" of the oilfields? Or is that something that goes along with this?

Reynolds' asinine suggestion belies the fact that the US military simply doesn't possess the capability to do such a thing even if the US could withstand the unanimous condemnation of the community of nations. In fact, it would trigger a mass global rearmament effort.

While Reynolds may have just been musing through his fingertips, it prominently displays his true feelings of how things would be so much better if only US foreign policy included kicking over every sovereign nation with which they disagreed. Notwithstanding, even if the US could get away with such a move, none of what he is suggesting would actually ever transpire.

I suppose if high oil prices have had any positive effect, it is that the sleeping non-committed have finally woken up and the right's real shit-stained colours are starting to fly.

Scott at LGM has even more.
