Yeah... That's really funny, George

Bush was visiting the Amputee Care Center of Brooke Army Medical Center at San Antonio, Texas on New Year's Day when he took time to answer the questions of reporters. (Four questions... but in that answering questions at all is a deviation from his normal routine, I suppose the media present felt... soothed.)

In a hospital full of wounded members of the armed services, almost all of whom have lost at least one limb in action and are now maimed and crippled for life, the President of the United States, a person who has never seen so much as two minutes of armed combat and has a questionable military record makes a joke:

As you can possibly see, I have an injury myself -- not here at the hospital, but in combat with a Cedar. I eventually won. The Cedar gave me a little scratch. As a matter of fact, the Colonel asked if I needed first aid when she first saw me. I was able to avoid any major surgical operations here, but thanks for your compassion, Colonel.

To George W Bush: You smarmy, insensitive, narcissist son-of-a-bitch. Every one of the patients in that hospital, returned from Iraq, is there because you, slimeball, wasted them. Your incompetent decision-making, abysmal policy-making and arrogant refusal to accept responsibility for your own actions are the reasons those people have had their bodies hacked to pieces. They have had their lives destroyed and their dreams for the future ruined. Some will spend the rest of their lives in a VA hospital. And you make a freaking joke!

Scum bag.

If you can stomach it, the whole exchange is here. (Caution - this is the White House site.)

Update: Larry at NO QUARTER also has a good take on this. The comments say it all.
