Today in History

Today, February 15, is the 19th anniversary of the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The BBC noted at the time that "...Kabul is surrounded by a mujahideen force of around 30,000, with the city under artillery and rocket "bombardment"."

Read this analysis of declassified documents from the archives of the old Soviet Union. Pay special attention from the third paragraph to the end.

Sounds familiar doesn't it.
