Line up, you lying, cheating Harperistas ... here comes the bus

Remember this?

How about this or this?

So, from the mouth of a Harper conservative we get this:
“Basically what happened was that they used robocalls to misdirect NDP voters, to split the vote and allow Gary Lunn to win,” Duffy said.
“He knew nothing about it, except that they phoned him afterward and said ‘You’re welcome Gary.’ He said ‘What?’ (They said) ‘We got you in’.”
Lunn told The Canadian Press on Thursday that he has no recollection of the June 2009 lunch, never knew who made the misleading phone calls and never told Duffy that it was Conservative headquarters.
Somebody is lying.

Outright Liars

Jason Kenney is a liar. So is his puppy, James Bezan. So says the commander of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.

Kenney and Bezan are claiming a close encounter between HMCS Fredericton and Russian surface combatants and aircraft. Supposedly, they got that information from the commanding officer of Fredericton.

Not bloody likely.

There is a near zero chance that the captain of Fredericton sent anything but a factual report of a distant visual sighting of Russian ships and aircraft. To do otherwise would prompt Rear Admiral Brad Williamson, commander SNMG2, to boot HMCS Fredericton to a safe area, well away from any activity. Excitable frigate captains who embellish contact reports are not an asset in such situations - they are an extreme liability.

The fact that HMCS Fredericton remains on station with SNMG2 is solid evidence that the ship is performing and reporting in accordance with the well-practiced doctrine established by the officer in tactical command.

That makes Kenney, Bezan and anybody who repeats their words, liars.

Odious Oda . . .

MACLEANS.CA has a great piece by Scott Feschuk, "Bev Oda is trying SO HARD". Apparently Bev is doing The Weasel, and Scott is not impressed:

You have to admire the grade-school panache with which Oda tried to pull this off. The little up-arrow. The word NOT all in caps. SO ADORABLE. It’s just how the climactic scene of In the Loop would have played out if the brilliant British spin doctor had been replaced by an eight-year-old boy, or a clever parakeet. (Also: it’s weirdly endearing that she wrote – or had written – only the word NOT, instead of DO NOT. I not approve of her grammar!)

Yesterday, Oda said: “The way in which this case has been handled, including by myself, has been unfortunate.”

That’s a spectacular quote. It appears to be an apology of sorts, or at least an admission of… something. It’s benign enough that at first you pass right over it, accepting it for what it seems to be. But let’s parse it a little more closely.

“The way in which this case has been handled…”

Nice use of the passive voice there. Effectively distances Oda from responsibility even as she pretends to attempt to take it. The passive voice: the official voice of those up shit’s creek!

“… including by myself…”

Here’s the money clause. By saying “including by myself,” Oda again appears to take an element of responsibility. But wait: Isn’t this “case” ENTIRELY about herself?

J'accuse, Not-so-Breitbart!

I'm not a huge fan of Keith Oberman, in fact here in Tokyo I don't even get his broadcasts, so I really only see his "special comments" when one is drawn to my attention, as this one was. And he knocks this one out of the park. Seriously, some people need to lose their jobs over this whole thing and NOT Shirley Sherrod. Anyone who booked Andrew "lying sack of horseshit" Breitbart to appear on television, for starters. Also anyone, like Tom Vilsack or White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina, who give any credence to the massive bullshit machine that is made up of people like half-bright and completely dishonest smear merchant Andrew Breitbart--why do these weak-kneed boobs have jobs?

Maybe we could try this?

The man who has never been right about anything...

Is wrong again.
"I'm familiar with the budget for security," Flaherty told reporters in Toronto.
Well, good. You were also familiar with a global economy swirling the drain and denied it was ever happening. Until it took the final plunge.

"Canada's playing an important role and it's one worth playing from time to time," Flaherty said.
What part would that be?

Is it the part about Canada being vilified as a global pariah and world-class reneger on greenhouse gas emissions? Or is the importance of our role associated with continuing to peddle the disgraced Bush administration policies on maternal health care, which are more in line with the whispers in Harper's ear from a charlatan religious profiteer than with the rest of the world?
"In today's international environment unfortunately, it's necessary to spend substantially on security. It's Canada's turn. Either we don't take our turn or we pay the appropriate amount necessary so that everyone is safe."
It is? This is the big conservative "safety play"? All us grown-ups will keep the double-double crowd safe from the boogie men.? Is that what this is?!

Is that why you are holding it in a place almost impossible to secure? Or, to do so means a virtual police lock-down and a trammeling of freedom?

Tell us more about what it means to keep people safe, Big Jim. Sit us down beside the fire and tell us how this is all about safety. Tell us how sound money management should not stand in the way of safety. Tell us why a long-gun registry is such a bad idea in terms of safety and over a billion dollars for security alone makes sense.

Go ahead and justify, you slimy little ambulance chaser, on the basis of safety.

Safety for whom?

The BC "Liberals" fly their true colours

When things get dirty, so do conservatives, and that's what Gordon Campbell really is.
The provincial Environment Ministry has suffered deep cuts in Tuesday's budget and a levy that raised $25-million annually for clean energy has been repealed, raising questions about the direction of Canada's greenest province.
And if you want to make matters worse, this crowd has suddenly realized how many businesses are about to get royally screwed by their acceptance of Flaherty's $1.6 billion bribe and are now trying to find ways to rebate a seven percent tax increase on almost everything.

If you want to know how people are feeling about this pack of lying hyenas (my apologies to that wild species) you only have to travel the Trans-Canada Highway from Victoria to Duncan. Just east of Duncan you will see a sign which says it all.

George W. Bush for Premier.

Campbell won't understand that. The same as he didn't comprehend that drinking and driving was a criminal act for everyone.

The truth won't set Dick Cheney free

For Dick Cheney 9/11 means never having to say you're sorry. His speech last week at the American Enterprise Institute is a masterpiece of self-justification

Over on the left wing of the president's party, there appears to be little curiosity in finding out what was learned from the terrorists. The kind of answers they're after would be heard before a so-called "Truth Commission." Some are even demanding that those who recommended and approved the interrogations be prosecuted, in effect treating political disagreements as a punishable offense, and political opponents as criminals. It's hard to imagine a worse precedent, filled with more possibilities for trouble and abuse, than to have an incoming administration criminalize the policy decisions of its predecessors

Now lets just break that paragraph down one bit at time and I'll see if I can translate it for you:

"Over on the left wing (those who oppose me are all communists) of the president's party (no real Republican would object to what we did) there appears to be little curiosity in finding out what was learned from the terrorists (The ends justify the means and torture worked, it saved lives-- no really it did, nevermind all those people who argue otherwise--but our opponents don't care, they are just playing 'gotcha'). The kind of answers they're after (they don't care about the truth, they just want something that would make us look bad) would be heard before a so-called (it wouldn't be the truth) "Truth Commission." Some are even demanding that those who recommended and approved the interrogations be prosecuted (the reverse Nuremberg defense- I'm not responsible for what happened, I was only giving the orders), in effect treating political disagreements (ordering torture and other violations of the law and Constitution are merely partisan politics) as a punishable offense (they are being vicious and vindictive and want to hurt me, help!) , and political opponents (war criminals are merely people with whom the left disagree) as criminals. It's hard to imagine a worse precedent (oh noes! people will be held responsible for their actions), filled with more possibilities for trouble and abuse (if we start prosecuting people for torture and war crimes, who knows where this whole 'punishing people for breaking the law' thing could go? My buddies at Haliburton could be next) , than to have an incoming administration criminalize (ordering people to be tortured, some of them to death, was not a crime, it wasn't! its only a crime because the Democrats say it is, despite 200 years of law that says otherwise ) the policy decisions (actual crimes) of its predecessors.

The real reason that the former vice president has been all over the TV and newspapers lately is not so much about securing his place in history as it is securing his place outside of the dock in the Hague.

Look, I don't think anyone will argue that the 9/11 attacks were not a horrible thing. Nearly 3,000 people died and that is pretty goddamn awful. But, rightwing pantspisser pronouncements to the contrary, it didn't change anything. The law is still the law. The worst crimes perpetrated do not allow us to ignore the law when it comes to catching and punishing the perpetrators. The Manson Family murders did not give the police the right to shoot suspected Beatles fans on sight.Just because you're scared shitless doesn't mean you can do anything you want. The notion that "the end does not justify the means" is not just some collegiate philosophy 101 bit of theory, it is pretty much the basis of western law, along with that whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing and "habeas corpus" -- but then again, I suppose those were ignored or suspended too during the Cheney regime.

Maybe if Bwana Dick Cheney had thought of the possibility of going to jail a few years ago, the world would be a better place right now, but I suppose given his history in the Nixon and Ford administrations, one can't really expect him to understand that just because the President does it, doesn't mean its not illegal.

Dear Stephen Taylor....

Kissmyroseyredass you hypocritical sonofabitch.

You, of all people, are busy pissing your pants complaining about individuals producing videos which demonstrate the character flaws of your Dear Leader?

My gawd!!! Do I have to hit you with a two by four?!

This blog, of all places, is bent politically in five different directions... except one.

Get it?!

It's not about the Liberals.

It's about Harper.

And... it's about you - a confirmed and remunerated Conservative Party operative.

I know you can't figure out the difference between astroturf and grassroots but to sit there and whine about it?

Someone should put a frame around you and tell people to watch out for stray darts.

Need an explanation? Read Steve V.

And don't bother to wipe the shit off your lips. It so becomes you.

It is only when the tide goes out that you know who's been swimming naked.

Uppity women. Vic Toews will fix you.

Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board vows to fix the "broken pay equity system". Except that the way he and the Harper Party plan on doing it is to grind as many women's and labour bodies under the heel of a single piece of legislation as possible.

Now go read Dr. Dawg where you can see what's really happening.
