Blue Balls . . .

NATURAL NEWS is a site devoted to health and nutrition. They have a very interesting report on blueberries: "Blueberries faked in cereals, muffins, bagels and other food products". Apparently all those "blueberries" found in cereals and muffin mixes are artificial confections.

Where did the blueberries go?

They certainly didn't end up in Total Blueberry Pomegranate Cereal. This cereal, made by General Mills, contains neither blueberries nor pomegranates. They're nowhere to be found. But the cereal is made with red #40, blue #2 and other artificial colors. And it's even sweetened with sucralose, a chemical sweetener. And that's in addition to the sugar, corn syrup and brown sugar syrup that's already on the label.

Another good reason to make food labels voluntary. Imagine how upset people who read would be to find no blueberries in their blueberry food.
One of the great fears of Frankenfoods is that they will look and taste like food but have very little nutritional value.

We need to get back to the days when manufacturers might fear getting caught out like this.

Food labeling should be mandatory, including disclosure of the use of GMOs.

I'd suggest you be careful about believing anything that appears on Natural News. This particular item could be true, but Mike Adams is a notoriously bad judge of reliable information. He's also an anti-vaccine zealot, HIV denialist,
and possibly a former Scientologist, which would explain where he got some of his more ludicrous notions about health and medicine.

Edith, thanks for the heads-up on the kook factor.
You have to read the ingredients list carefully. Thus I discovered that Christie's Ginger Snaps contained no ginger.

It says on the box "fruit flavoured clusters".
As George Carlin said, when you see something which contains "chocolatey goodness" there is one thing you can be sure about -- "no f*cking chocolate"!
