Know thy enemy . . .

SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW about Emily Dee; then again some of you may not. She's a really smart lady with a blog: Aberhart and Harper on Crusade — History of the Conservative Party of Canada which emerged from the Social Credit Party of William Aberhart, not the Tory Party of Sir John A MacDonald. Here she posts excerpts from her book, "A CULTURE OF DEFIANCE: History of the Reform-Conservative Party of Canada". Worth the read.

Besides a detailed history of our western whack-jobs, Emily has a delightful take on Robert Service: "The Creation of Mad Stevie: Sorry Robert Service". Here's the first two verses, below, but click on the link to savour this masterpiece:

There were strange things done for political fun
By a man whose blood runs cold;
His campaign trails have their secret tales
Of pure cunning as they unfold;

And while election nights, have seen queer sights
The queerest we ever did see
Was when we let down our guard, and without reward
We elected Mad Stevie
