Flippantly digging

So, it seems the joke is on the Harper government, which is now writing a letter to the UN SecGen on the legal case for moving into Syria. Haha.

But seriously, the outstandingly flippant fratboy disregard for adhering to the bare minimum of legal requirements until someone drew their attention to it?

People who operate that level that any decision involving military action is taken very seriously, no matter how preordained it might be given the various ideologies and rationales at play. I've seen them talk about it.

Our "government"? Yeehaw seems to be the only rationale for a bunch of men in suits, Harper chief among them, who will never let themselves be put at risk of being burnt alive in an ISIL cage, or hauled before the ICC.

Fate tends to have an unpleasant way of dealing with arrogant people who mock it. This will not end well.

RossK left a link in comments under a previous post to this quote on his blog from 10 years ago about another war. Leaving it here again for people who missed it last time. The Cons give me reason to recall this quote at least once a week but I didn't remember I'd originally read it at his place.

"We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality - judiciously, as you will - we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

Also at Hill Times - lawyers explaining what Article 51 is actually for: Feds should've consulted international law experts before invoking UN Charter's article 51 against ISIL in Syria

The government finding a judge who will cough up the legal cover they need to do something illegal in secret is of course also a worry re Bill C-51.

Vic Toews.

I remember a discussion way back about what it might be like and do to Canada to have to take on the mantle of being the only remaining neo-conservative government left once Bush was gone.

Now we know.

For me, what immediately sprang to mind when Shit Head made his "ISIL Lawyers" remark was another witless, warmongering fratboy mockingly looking for Iraqi WMD's under his Oval Office desk...

It's rank hubris and, let me see, what follows hubris? Oh yeah, nemesis.

Today is an anniversary for best practices in Canada. Obeying international law is not even a best practice it the law. Harper can not even follow a logic tree to the first branch.
Repulicans like him often take a more direct approach, and invading Syrai fits a pattern.

it is highly entertaining at some level that "great warrior" P.M. has decided to more or less declare war on Syria. Its not like Syria has done anything to Canada, yet Stevie and his Cons want to "invade" Syria. So what was wrong with Putin doing that in Ukraine. at least Putin could say it once belonged to them, but really Syria has never belonged to Canada nor declared war on us.

Here we go again, bombing and killing. Its so hard to believe those good "Christian" Cons, well the P.M. and 60 M.P.s are members of the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church. They believe the bible is "inerrant" and the second coming is "imminent". \

Obviously these boys can't read because I distinctly remember there is a line in there about, "thou shalt not kill". Didn't see any exemptions.

Now of course With Syria and Russia having some sort of deal, it would serve "great warrior" P.M. right if Assad, asked Putin to use his air space and drop a few bombs on Canada. what else would you expect. You go bomb some country, when you weren't asked to, a country which hasn't done anything to you, except loose land to a bunch of crazies. So if Syria comes and bombs Canada, I will accept it as part of having a war mongerer as a P.M. who has a few screws loose. If we get bombed by Syria I do not expect the U.S.A. to come to our aid. They didn't ask Canada to bomb Syria either. Now that I think about it, "great warrior" P.M. was rather rude to the highly educated and articulate President of the U.S.A., so really I would really understand if he didn't come to our aid. "great warrior" leader might want to give his good pal Benny a call or tony in Australia, but I don't think they would be up to any involvement.
