Typhoon Fitow makes a tour of Honshu
Typhoon Fitow is still alive and moving in a North-Northeasterly direction at about 13 knots15 mph/24 kmh down the centre of Honshu. The Japanese islands are well accustomed to this type of cyclone during the northern hemisphere summer so disruptions, while inconvenient, appeared not to be significant.
One man was killed in Nagano prefecture when he was hit by a falling tree.
Fitow now has winds of 65 knots/75 mph/120 kmh with gusts to 80 knots/92 mph/148 kmh.
Fitow should undergo an extratropical transition within the next few hours which will serve to weaken it slightly.
