Nacht und nebel . . .

Tooba et al.

NIGHT AND FOG — and invisibility. What's up with Mo and Tooba? Along with their prize son Hamed, they felt the call of "honor" — and four women drowned on the night of June 30, 2009, Zainab Shafia, 19, Sahar Shafia, 17, and Geeti Shafia, 13, all sisters, as well as Rona Amir Mohammed, 50, their father's first wife.

TWENTY-FIVE months later, and the silence is deafening. That's justice in Ontario, it seems. But considering how Dalton plays fast and loose with legalities, like failing to publish laws in the Ontario Gazette BEFORE authorizing the police to use 'em, I guess this is par for the course. Can't seem to find any information about any trial or sentencing.

  1. Perhaps in their haste to prove this was an "honour" killing and not a multiple homicide for the purpose of claiming insurance money, the police contaminated the evidence?

It happens all the time, when the police put their prejudices before procedure.

  2. We're in Harper's Canada. No one gives a shit about dead brown people.

  3. 25 MONTHS, people. Due Process? Huh? Justice? How about justice for 13 year-old Geeti Shafia? Oh, wait, she's dead, so she can wait, it seems.

Equally disgraceful is the state of justice for aboriginal women in Canada, who seem to be living in a Road Warrior flick, with snow.

A lot of the problem with aboriginal women as targets resides with the RCMP, WHICH NEEDS A COMPLETE OVERHAUL.

And the RCMP overhaul should be Job 1 with all the "Progressives" — but it's not. The silence is deafening, gawddam chicket-shits. Lenin was right, useful idiots indeed.

  4. I noticed you didn't address any of my points regarding the investigation.

Perhaps you share the same worldview the cops do: Women of pallor get killed by family members = domestic violence. Women of colour get killed = honour killing.

Not that the police do that great a job of seriously investigating crimes against women.

The trial is due to begin in October. There was a delay after Hamed fired his lawyer and the new lawyer needed time to clear his other cases before getting up to speed on this one. Delay mostly caused by the logistics of arranging attendance of witnesses from Europe.
