MMP and the MSM
Alison has a Do Not Miss post over at Creekside in which she disassembles some of the ridiculous and frankly, misleading arguments put forth by Canadian media pundits opposing the concept of mixed member proportional representation.
British Columbia had been presented the option of proportional representation in 2005 but rejected the chance to dump First-Past-the-Post in favour of Single Transferable Vote. On that occasion the media engaged in the same form of it's bad campaign.
Interestingly, the method employed by many pundits is to take the obvious advantages of PR and turn them into arguments against. It seems a great many many members of the media prefer an unfair system that only works in a pure two-party system, something Canada and most provinces have not had for over a century.
