The PMO is declining to comment on the meeting between Harper and Putin. So what else is new.

Howsomever, it would appear that Pootie Poot did not take Harper's lecture about democratic norms lying down. In the past he has countered such lectures with his own jeremiad about various shortcomings in the homeland of whoever is trying to lecture him.

Alexander Panetta of CP explains.

So now we have a verbatim record of Steverino's attitude to criticism of government in a democracy.

"That's fine, as long as we all accept the legitimacy of that criticism. We're prepared to listen to it, be open to it, and allow that kind of debate to occur in our societies. (It's not about) whether we're perfect, but whether criticism can happen, and is tolerated, and is part of the political process."
