The New Normal on the West Coast

Another day, another windstorm. As of about 3:15pm this is my backyard as seen from the roadway behind our unit here in this townhouse complex. And this is what the top 4 meters or so of the tree looks like lying in our driveway like a huge discarded Christmas tree. It snapped off a millisecond after the tree settled on the corner of the structure. Today's storm was clocked at over 150 kph at the top of Whistler but down here in the eastern reaches of North Vancouver above Deep Cove it couldn't have been more than 95.

Lions Gate Bridge and the causeway through Stanley Park is again closed. More trees are down causing more power outages all over the lower mainland.

And tonite it's said we'll get more snow and the temperatures will be heading down to minus ranges through the rest of the week.

It's official. There has never been a winter like this here. Never.
