Whispers of civil war
To an Arab, a rumour is as good as seeing something written and signed by two eye witnesses. That is not a criticism; it is a part of the Arab mindset.
Rumours, particularly on the streets of cities, are treated as facts and there is no reason not to believe they are not true. Without going into much detail, Arabs spread news quickly. Gossip is an artform and the passing of information is as much a part of daily life as lunch.
Most rumours turn out to be true. That is also a part of Arab life.
The rumours on the streets of Baghdad are that civil war is imminent and that the US actually wants it to happen. Many believe that the country is already in a low-level civil war.
This is just in from UPI, and it's worth reading.
