...But the long-expected assault on Kandahar province, and in particular Kandahar city, is expected to be a more ambitious and difficult fight and could see more Afghan civilians on the move.
As with the offensive on Helmand province, no precise timetable has been given for the offensive in Kandahar province, but a senior administration official with U.S. President Barack Obama's administration told Reuters Friday the aim will be to seize Kandahar city by the end of this year...
And Kandahar City? Jesus, isn't there a big effing NATO base there? Has it been overun? Oh wait, sorry, that must the a-i-r-f-i-e-l-d or something. Totally not the same Kandahar, completely different Afghanistan even. Yeah, who knew eh? Oh well, at least this exercise in assaulting our own AOR will be sure to give our homegrown war-fans another big fight to say "Fuck-yeah! Kick some ass!" over, and the associated dead troops that are required to feed their fetish for getting all misty-eyed and flaggy with their red-shirts and stickers.
Nevermind the locals of course. Given the recent spate of atrocities via NATO munitions, and now the desire for NATO to fight fights where they live, creating more internally displaced Afghans (if they flee the country, they can officially be called refugees and then people HAVE to help them...), one does wonder if NATO will eventually admit it has abandoned any pretence toward the hearts and minds stuff.
